Kate Mulgrew Returns For Star Trek: Prodigy
Mulgrew will be a main cast member in Prodigy, which follows a “motley crew of young aliens” who find an abandoned starship and must learn how to work together as they search for adventure in the Delta Quadrant. Mulgrew will be playing the starship’s Emergency Training Hologram, aka a holographic version of Captain Janeway. “Five kids are incarcerated on an obscure planet in an uncharted part of the galaxy,” Mulgrew explained last month during San Diego Comic-Con@Home’s “Star Trek” Universe panel, giving some more insight into the series’ story. “They escape from their imprisonment and race across the planet to find a defunct starship buried in the sand of the planet’s surface.” You can hear Mulgrew’s voice in action in the teaser trailer below…
Which Other Voyager Cast Members Are Returning For Prodigy?
Originally, it seems that Mulgrew would be the only Voyager cast member returning for Prodigy, but now we know that is not the case. At this past weekend’s 55-Year Mission convention in Las Vegas (via TrekNews), Robert Beltran, who appeared on all seven seasons of Voyager as Chakotay, announced he has done some voice work for the new Trek show. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that Beltran will be voicing Chakotay, it seems likely. And, if that is the case, it opens up a lot of questions about the possibility of other Voyager characters returning for Prodigy, and also some questions about why the heck these Delta Quadrant kids might be running into Chakotay, who returned home from the far reaches of the galaxy with the rest of the Voyager crew at the end of the series. Could the Prodigy crew wind up far from their own home, a la Voyager, and closer to Federation space? Or is this starship just randomly filled with holographic versions of the Voyager crew? Which Voyager characters would you like to see return in Prodigy? Let us know in comments below. Star Trek: Prodigy is set to debut sometime in fall 2021 on Paramount+.
