As the special look trailer released by Disney during Monday Night Football yesterday confirmed, Mando will turn to old friends Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and Cara Dune (Gina Carano) for help at some point in season 2. At the very least, it looks like the trio will tangle with the Empire on Nevarro, the volcanic planet where Mando last faced the villainous Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). While most of this “special look” video features scenes previously revealed in the season’s first trailer, there’s one line that seems significant. As Mando reunites with Cara and Greef, he informs them that he’s been “quested” to bring the Child back to his own kind. We know the mysterious Armorer set the duo on this path at the end of season 1 after the destruction of the Mandalorian covert on Nevarro, but it sounds like she won’t be the only member of the warrior race guiding them on this journey. “If I can locate other Mandalorians, they can guide me,” Mando explains to someone in a voiceover as we watch him inspect the damaged Razor Crest. While it’s possible that this is just a bit of misdirection, the line seems to indicate that The Mandalorian will introduce new Mandalorian characters in season 2. We already know that at least one classic Mandalorian is set to make his long-awaited return in the live-action series. Temuera Morrison, the actor who played Jango Fett and the clone troopers in the Prequel Trilogy, is set to bring a new version of Boba Fett to the screen. Will the infamous bounty hunter be one of the Mandalorians who Din has to find to learn more about Baby Yoda’s origin and the Jedi he’s undoubtedly connected to? He isn’t the only Mandalorian from the Clone Wars era making the jump to the TV series, though. There’s also Katee Sackhoff’s return as Bo-Katan Kryze, the Mandalorian warrior who we last saw in the Star Wars Rebels animated series. Bo-Katan was the last-known Mandalorian wielder of the Darksaber before it found its way into Gideon’s hands on the live-action series. Bo-Katan spent a lot of time working against and later with the Jedi to free Mandalore and likely has some very valuable insight into where Baby Yoda might come from. There’s also the possibility that the line simply indicates that Mando is going to encounter all-new Mandalorians in season 2, other characters like the Armorer created specifically for the live-action series. We know that what remained of Din’s race after Mandalore was ravaged by the Empire scattered across the galaxy, forced to go into hiding to avoid extinction. Finding another tribe like the one hiding on Nevarro would allow Mando a chance to not only reconnect with his people but also perhaps find a new home for himself. Whatever the case may be, we’ll find out soon enough when The Mandalorian season 2 premieres on Oct. 30 on Disney+.
